Portraits of Honour National Tour Scheduled to Visit in CFB Borden

BORDEN, ON – The Portraits of Honour National Tour is scheduled to arrive at Canadian Forces Base Borden on Wednesday, November 16, 2011. Members of Canadian Forces Base Borden will hold a parade at 12:00 p.m. in Hangar 17, on Mitchell Street. The mural will be open for public viewing following the parade until 6:00 p.m.

The Portraits of Honour National Tour is centred on a 10′ x 40′ oil painted mural featuring the hand painted portraits of 157 Canadian soldiers, sailors and aircrew who have lost their lives while serving in Afghanistan. The mural has taken Kinsmen and volunteer artist Dave Sopha over 6,500 hours so far to paint but admits that his work won’t be complete until our mission in Afghanistan comes to a close. TOWN CONGRATULATES ALCONA OPTICAL ON NEW LOCATION AND 7 SUCCESSFUL YEARS

Innisfil, ON (October 20, 2011) – Innisfil Mayor Barb Baguley and Councillor Rod Boynton presented Alcona Optical owner, Lydia Fagents-Genno, with a recognition plaque last week. Celebrating seven successful years, Alcona Optical recently moved into a new location at 1015 Lebanon Drive, where the full-service optical store offers a Doctor of Optometry O.D. with 20 years experience, a Licensed Optician with 30 years experience, a certified contact lens fitter, and an on-site lab.

“It’s always exciting to see businesses adapt to the current economic conditions, make changes and re-open with renewed hope for the future,” said Councillor Rod Boynton.

TOWN EMPLOYEE’S ANNUAL UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN KICK OFF TAKES THE CAKE

Innisfil, ON (October, 21, 2011) – Town of Innisfil employees kicked off their annual United Way campaign today, October 21, 2011 announcing their 2012 campaign goal of raising $10,000 and reaching a staff participation rate of 60%. Funds will be raised through various events, prize draws and payroll deductions and will help support local community-based agencies and programs through the United Way of Greater Simcoe County. We are very grateful for all of the community support that we have received over the years. It’s hard to think that we have already surpassed the half way mark in our 24th year of operation.
